Creatables Wooden Christmas Box

Sorry about more Christmas things in January, but I'm still catching up on posting projects I finished last fall.

This is another altered cigar box. This one had a sliding top, so my husband drilled a hole in the top, and I added a little knob so it would be easier to open. The knob and the edges of the box were shaded with Viva Decor Inca Gold, then I applied some wood veneer to all the sides. The Marianne Creatables were cut and embossed from a lighter veneer, and shaded while still in the die with the Inca Gold, then the whole thing was varnished.

I made it while the shop was still open, and a lady paid me for it while I was still working on it. She wanted it for her husband for Christmas. I love it when that happens!

Bird Christmas Ornament ODBDSLC135

I made this ornament for Our Daily Bread Designs Challenge Snowflake or Snow.

For the ornament I used the ODBD sets Cardinal Ornament and Chickadee Ornament. These were stamped onto Core'dinations white pearl CS using VersaMark, and embossed with gold EP.

I cut the stampings out with a larger Spellbinders circle than usual, then cut 10 circular frames out of heavy CS (it was the backing sheet of several paper packs). I mounted the two stampings back to back with a piece of butcher's twine inside for a hanger, then glued five of the frames to each side of the stampings. I used silicone glue to ensure that there wouldn't be any leaks. This seemed easier and less expensive than using foam tape.

After that, I cut two pieces of acetate for the windows, and put glitter for snow in before adding the windows. After that, more silicone glue was spread around the outside edges of the ornament, and narrow gold ribbon was put around the ornament to cover the layers.

Then I cut out two more circular frames using Spellbinders dies, and added those to the ornaments using more silicone glue. Gold glitter was poured onto the lacy part of the frame and pushed into the glue which was exposed by the holes in the frames, and the excess was poured off. A paint brush was used to brush off any remaining glitter.

Last, a gold bow, white foliage, crystal snowflake, and diamond Stickles were added to both sides of the ornament.

Wooden Sled Ornament with PSX Santa Stamp

I actually made a card today, but it didn't turn out the way I expected it to. I made one of those star shaped ornament cards with the five squares that you use the origami squash fold on, then glue together, and when you hang it, it's supposed to look like a star. It was all lacy and die cut, stamped and embossed, and it took hours to do, but when you open mine, it looks like a wheel or something. It's round, but flat on the outside edges. Not at all like a star. Part of why it took hours wasn't only because of all the work I put into each piece, but also because I spent hours trying to find one on the internet so I could see what I did wrong. Since I don't know what they are really called, it was difficult to find them. Anyway, when I finally found some, they were made exactly like mine, but the ones on the internet look like stars, not wheels with flat sides. :-(

I guess I will have to do some more research and try to figure it out.

Anyway, every year my mother and I take some of our things to a Christmas benefit show, so when I'm not making cards for it, I'm doing other crafts. The show is this Saturday. One of the things I made is this wooden sled from AC Moore.

I base coated it with white and antique gold paint, then added a few coats of metallic gold and some sparkly white from Martha Stewart. After that, I stamped this santa from an old PSX stamp with versamark, then embossed it with gold EP. I drew a line around the top to frame it with a gold pen, and put a few coats of varnish on it.

It's quite pretty in person, much prettier than the paper wheel I made today!

Christmas Album

I decided to make a Christmas album. I've been working on it for a few days, and finally finished it today. Some of these photos are really blurry. I upgraded my phone, but the camera on this one doesn't seem to be as good as my old one.

This album contains mostly K&Co paper, but a few sheets were from my stash. The album is 6x9, so it will hold 4x6 and some 5x7 photos. It is bound with my Cinch.

The first photo is the front of the album.

This photo is the first page. It has a place for photos, and also has tags. The photo below shows the page with the tags removed, and the front side of the tags.

This page has a flip up to hold two 4x6 photos, with tags behind it. I forgot to take a picture of it flipped up. The photo below is the front of the tags.

This is another page with a place for a photo, and also a little 12 page book sewn with ribbon. The book is 5x5, and contains plain ivory CS. It is suitable for remembrances such as theater tickets, writing in, or wallet sized photos.

The two photos below show the book. The tag on the front is for labeling the book.

This is another page with room for a photo, as well as a separate little book with space for four 4x6 photos. The photo below shows the booklet open.

This page also has a flip up and will hold three photos. I forgot to photograph this one open.

This photo and the one below it show how this page flips open to hold three photos.

This photo and the one below show how this page also has room for three photos.

This photo and the one below it shows a gatefold which opens to hold another photo.

Here is another page with room for a photo. It also contains another ribbon sewn book designed for 4x6 photos. The four photos below show the inside pages and the back cover.

This photo and the one below show the inside back cover. It also has a flip up for photos.

This is the back cover. I hope you liked it, and that inspires you to make your own Christmas album!

Poinsettia Card ODBDSLC117

I made this card for the Our Daily Bread Designs ODBDSLC117 Sketch Challenge. For my card, I made the two contrasting paper patterns and ribbon go horizontally, rather than vertically, but I still placed the bow at the top.

I made the card using a stamp and die set I hadn't used yet. I was really anxious to use this stamp, but it didn't work with the vertical pattern, so I turned it sideways. The stamp is ODBD's Blessed Christmas, and I used the matching Poinsettia Die to cut it out. The Blessed Christmas set has some really gorgeous sentiments to go with it, but they weren't the right shape for this challenge. I have a lot of ODBD sentiments, but the only one I have which was the right size and shape was this one from the Faith Set. I love this one, but I really wanted to use a Christmas one.

I stamped everything with VersaMark, embossed with Superfine detail gold, and colored the poinsettia with Copics. The sentiment was outlined with a Jellyroll pen, and mounted onto Gold mirror card. Both stamped designs were mounted dimensionally onto the Anna Griffin background papers. The background was also mounted onto gold mirror card, and all the white paper is Core'dinations Pearl. The gold cord is from Wrights Trim. I added Liquid Pearls to the corners, and Stickles to the center of the flower.

For those who are following the story about the family of minks, I posted a few photos today.
