Blue Butterfly Card

A few months ago, I made a pink butterfly card using some paper I had stamped and embossed in gold using an old Anna Griffin background stamp I had. I really liked that card, and decided to make a blue one just like it.

The blue paper for the card was made by taking some white moire paper I bought a few years ago at an art supply store, and painting over it with some watercolors I made from two shades of PearlEx. I ran out of sheets of Gold Mirror card, and only have scraps left. The mirror card is really hard to find, and the new owners of the craft store where I bought it are terrible about ordering, so I used some gold gift wrap I bought years ago at a paper mill outlet store for the matting. The butterflies were cut from my scraps of mirror card using Cheery Lynn Exotic Butterflies, then I used those Angel wing things to cut some blue paper for behind the wings. I still hate those angel wing things, and wish they were whole dies instead of half dies though. Usually I have to run them twice through the Grand Calibur to get a whole butterfly. This time, I used lighter weight paper, and folded them, but the bodies came out thinner than the bodies on the filigree butterflies and didn't quite fit. Anyway, after gluing the butterfly layers together, I used a sparkly Gelyroll pen to color the blue in the wings a little bit deeper shade of blue than the background.

The label is from Spellbinders, and is cut and embossed from more scraps of mirror card, then I gold embossed a JustRite stamp on blue paper for the sentiment. This was stamped with VersaMark, and the whole label was mounted dimensionally.

I'm really sorry I haven't been around to visit much lately, it's still pretty busy here.

Pink Butterflies Card

A few months ago, I was using an old Anna Griffin background stamp to make embossed gold backgrounds. Today I decided to use this one to make a card.

I matted the embossed piece with gold mirror card and mounted it onto some interesting moire paper I bought a few years ago at an art supply store. The background paper was run through my Xyron and mounted onto white CS first, then matted with more of the gold card and it was all mounted onto a 5x7 card.

The butterflies are Cheery Lynn. The filigree part was cut from gold mirror card, and the other part was cut from Core'dinations pearl. As usual, when using heavy paper like this, you have to use the die on one side of the paper, then carefully line it up on the back side to cut the other side, since Cheery Lynn only makes the background cutting dies as half a die for some strange reason. (It's a big pet peeve of mine, so I always mention it in the hopes that they will make whole dies instead). I love using this very heavy Core'dinations paper, and I love Cheery Lynn Dies, but it is too heavy to work with what they call their Angel Wings. After cutting all the butterfly pieces, I glued them together and colored them with Gelyroll pens.

The Happy Birthday is from JustRite, and was cut with a Spellbinders tag die and embossed with gold EP. The pearls are Liquid Pearls.

This card couldn't be any pinker, so as usual, when I make a pink card, I'm reminded of my loyal internet friend Jill!

Blue Butterfly and Rose Card

Yesterday and today I was playing with all my butterfly stamps and dies. This is one of the butterflies I made. It is from Cheery Lynn. I cut the filigree part of the die from gold mirror card, and the other part from Core'dinations Pearl CS. Next, I mounted the filigree part over the other part and colored the butterfly with sparkly gelyroll pens. The green in the butterfly isn't really this bright, but that's how it came out in the photograph.

The card is designed around the butterfly, so I chose a blue pearlescent paper which was the same color as the blue in the butterfly. I also knew I wanted a doily, so I chose my current favorite one from Noor!, and cut it out with the pearl CS, and used the blue Gelyroll pen to color the embossing.

I almost always use the same Marianne Creatables for the center of this die because it fits so perfectly, and I like the edge of it, so I cut the next layer in blue, then used a Spellbinders one in white. The corner dies are also from Noor!.

The rose is made from Spellbinders Rose Creations. It uses Core'dinations Pearl in white, and was shaded with VersaMagic Aegean Blue. The foliage is also from Spellbinders. It's from the Spellbinders Foliage set. I cut the side leaves off the stem and spread them out to surround the flower. They were colored with a green Gelyroll which actually matched the pearl green paper, except they were shinier, but they reflected blue in the photograph, no matter how many times I photographed them.

Next, I mounted the butterfly. It was supposed to be in the lower left hand corner, but I forgot to check which way the card was when I glued him on. Ooops! Luckily, the card didn't have a design where it really mattered. The fold was going to be on the side, but now it's on the top, and he's in the bottom right hand corner.

The card was mounted onto more gold mirror card, and a Core'dinations white Pearl card, then white and blue Liquid Pearls were added.

In order to use the Cheery Lynn background for the butterfly with heavy paper like the pearl CS, you have to cut it once, then flip it over and carefully align the die with the already cut part and cut it from the other side, because for some reason, Cheery Lynn only makes half a die for those. Since I cut out a bunch of them yesterday, it was kind of a pain, but the butterflies are beautiful. I love the look with the gold filigree over them!

Pink Butterfly Card

I didn't get a card made today because I had to take my husband off the island to the eye doctor. He had shingles several years ago, and is still having eye problems because of them. Also, I had to try to get my license renewed. I only had a temporary one because it's difficult to prove who you are in Maine. (at least it's difficult in the Ellsworth office). After 42 years of having a license, both this time and the last time, I had temporary licenses for months. Two people got rejected before me today, even though they had lived in Maine all their lives, so I was nervous, but I finally got it. We have to go through more than the birth certificate thing, and this year I had to go all the way to Augusta just to get the temporary one. The last time, even my passport and birth certificate, weren't enough, I had to wait to go out of state to get my marriage certificate too. Now my passport is expired, so I can't use that. On top of that, you have to have something with your name and physical address on it, so it's difficult for renters and people who have PO boxes.

Anyway, I made this card way back when I first got my Spellbinders decorative Labels Eight, but I don't think I ever posted it. The background paper is pink Core'dinations pearl, and the top layers are White Pearl shaded with Brilliance ink. The butterfly is Cheery Lynn.

One of the reasons I chose this pink card to post today, is because I'm missing seeing my blog friend Jill online for a few days, and she loves pink. Jill, I hope you are feeling okay, but if you aren't, I put this one on to cheer you up. :-)

Butterflies and Flowers Cheery Lynn Challenge 62

I made this card for Cheery Lynn Designs Challenge 62 Winter White. The challenge called for a card which is all white.

I still don't have too many Cheery Lynn dies, so I cut every one I have with Core'dinations Pearl, and kept arranging them until I found three sets which would work together. It's not my favorite card, but in person it's very sparkly and quite pretty.

It was difficult to photograph, so I did two. One with the phone's flash, which made the Stickles look pink, and one without flash, where the light bulbs made it look yellow.

For this card, I used CL's Victorian Romance Flourish to act as a planter, Cl's Exotic Butterflies Small #2, and CL's Pair of Ferns.

Everything was mounted onto some sheer paper I had in my stash, which had white sparkly vines all through it. The paper is mounted onto a card I made with the pearl paper, and stickles were added to the die cuts and around the DP.

The background looked kind of flat, so I punched a bunch of tiny flowers and added them to the flowers in the DP, then added Crystal Stickles to the centers of the flowers.

Lacy Celebrate Card Cheery Lynn Designs Challenge 38 - Celebration

I made this card for Cheery Lynn Designs Challenge 38 - Celebration. The Cheery Lynn dies I used for this card are the Kiwi Spirit Doily and the Exotic Butterflies Small #2.

Both stamps are from Anna Griffin, and are stamped with Tsukineko Brilliance so they would have a lot of shine to match the pearlescent papers I used.

I mounted lace paper I had in my stash over the card so it would echo the lacy look of the stamps and dies, then mounted the kiwi doily onto pink pearl paper and cut around it with scissors, and mounted them onto the card. Then I mounted the cake dimensionally on the doily. I did the same thing with the saying. The pink on the butterfly actually matches the paper, but it looks different in the photograph. The roses are from our local craft store, and the greenery is the MS branch punch. The "pearls" are Liquid pearls, and the candle flames are a glittery stuff like Stickles.

Butterflies and Doily Cheery Lynn Designs Challenge 37

I made this card for the Cheery Lynn Designs Challenge 37 - White on White

I still don't have many Cheery Lynn Dies, only four, and one I can't use because the company I ordered them from sent me the wrong size angel wings for my butterflies. (I was very careful to choose the right ones, but it was a month or so later, when I went to use them that I realized they had sent me the small wings instead of small #2. Too late to exchange them).

Anyway, as I build my collection, I am trying to make the most beautiful cards I can with what I've got! :-) I love kaleidoscopes, so I decided to use my new Kiwi Spirit Doily, and my Exotic Butterflies Small #2 to make a kaleidoscopic design. I used Core'dinations white pearl paper for the whole card. For the base, I made the card 5x5. The card definitely needed a lacy edge, but since I don't have an edge die yet, I used a Martha Stewart Punch Around the Page, and punched around a piece of 5x5 paper. I mounted that dimensionally on the card.

Next, I die cut the Kiwi Doily and mounted that dimensionally with the four central ovals facing diagonally toward the corners. I wanted the butterfly antennae to be on either side of the ovals. I punched out a bunch of each style of butterflies, and tried them on the paper until I found an arrangement I was happy with.

I still don't have any Cheery Lynn flower dies, so I used a flower I made by stacking Prima flower parts and adding stamens to them. Imagine how much more beautiful this would have been if I had real Cheery Lynn flower dies!.

The last step was coloring the butterflies' bodies and antennae with Krylon 18K Gold. I decided that they needed more dimension, so I put Buttercup Liquid Pearls on the bodies, added it to the flower stamens so they would match better, and used it to make fake pearls around the border.

Congratulations Butterfly Easel Card

I made this card for Cheery Lynn Designs Challenge 36 - Silver and/or Gold. So far, my collection of Cheery Lynn Dies is very small, but I have the Kiwi Doily on it's way to me, so it's growing!

For this challenge, I used the Exotic Butterflies Small #2, and cut them out of gold mirror card. The DP is from DCWV's Mariposa Stack, which is mounted on more gold mirror card, dark green CS, and white CS.

Most of the stamps are from JustRite, except for the frame around the "Congratulations" one, which is a very old clear stamp, and I have no idea who made it. The stamping was done with VersaMark, and embossed with Superfine Detail Gold EP. The stamps were mounted dimensionally. The Pearls are Queen & Co.

Cheery Lynn Designs Challenge 34 - Wedding/Anniversary

I made this card for Cheery Lynn Designs Challenge 34 - Wedding/Anniversary. I am just starting my collection of Cheery Lynn's beautiful dies, so I only have a few. I was planning on using Exotic Butterflies Small #2 with this Victorian Romance Flourish, but as I decided on a design and finished the card, the butterflies were just too much of a good thing, so I added pearls instead.

I cut the flourish out with Core'dinations white pearl paper, and used the same paper as the base of the card. The same paper was stamped with JustRite's Spring Rose Medallions Set, using VersaMark Dazzle, and embossed with Fine Detail Gold. The flourishes and medallions were mounted onto gold mirror card. The photo makes the card look a little strange. It is an easel card, and the base looks much lighter because of the reflection.

I had originally planned on making this card all white, but you know how it goes when you make a card, it doesn't always turn out the way you expected it to!

Butterfly Magic Box Revised and Finished

I added a lot more to the butterfly box I posted the other day, and finished the outside. The dies are by Spellbinders and the "non flying" butterflies are Cheery Lynn, the flowers are Prima and Recollections. I forgot to scrunch the roses on the sides back up after gluing them onto the box. They were made with three Recollections flowers scrunched up and glued on top of each other. The ones on top are the Prima ones. I curled the stems by rolling them around my embossing tool.

The pearls are Queen & Co and Liquid Pearls, and the "flying" butterflies are Martha Stewart. The paper is DCWV, Core'dinations Pearl and Anna Griffin.

Easel Card Sticky Note Holder

This isn't quite finished. I want to add matchbox drawers beneath it so who ever gets it will be able to store paper clips and things right in the same place. Unfortunately I don't have any match boxes, so I will add them and rephotograph this when I get back from the holidays.

I didn't use a pattern for this, I just made an easel card with a 1/2" fold to accommodate the pad and pen, (I haven't got the pen yet), and made a slit for the ribbon which will hold the pen. I sort of messed up though, because I put the ribbon too high. Oh well, it makes a good prototype and I will do better on the next one.

The patterned paper is from the Mariposa stack, I couldn't believe the bird image was exactly the right size for a 5x5 card! The white is Core'dinations pearl, and the green is ordinary green CS. The butterfly is Cheery Lynn, and I accented the card with diamond Stickles.

We're leaving in the morning to visit the kids and grandchildren for a couple of weeks, but I want to wish all of my blog friends a wonderful holiday season!

Easel Card with Marianne Creatables and Cheery Lynn

This card was made using a 5" square of Core'dinations light gold pearl CS and applying Marianne Creatables Anja Style Corners around a tag by K & Co.

Surrounding the light gold pearl CS is gold mirror card, pink linen textured pearl CS by Core'dinations and white CS. The flowers are Prima, and the butterfly is cut from a Cheery Lynn die. The sparkly accents are stickles.

Filigree Butterfly Card

This card uses an Anja Style Corner by Marianne Designs and a filigree butterfly by Cheery Lynn. The butterfly is mounted on a flower from Spellbinders. I love all the cutting and embossing dies we now have access to!

The pink moire paper was bought at craft store and mounted onto white card stock using my Xyron. It's a regular weight paper, and mounting it on card stock enables me to use it like any other card stock. I am always on the lookout for beautiful papers. The lavender paper is some linen textured card stock I've had for a while. The pearls are Queen & Co.
